Stearate

Stearate

Metallic soap is stearic acid, which is formed by replacing the ions of metallic elements with the hydrogen ions of the acid. This substance exists in different forms, including granules and white micronized powder. Metal stearates such as calcium stearate, zinc stearate (zinc stearate), aluminum stearate, magnesium stearate, sodium stearate and potassium stearate are produced.

Stearates are used in various industries such as oil and petrochemical, plastic and masterbage and compounds, paint and resin industries, etc.

Calcium stearate

It is used in various industries, among the uses of this material, the following can be mentioned:

It is used as a lubricant in the production of PVC and is also a part of the formulation of environmentally friendly thermal stabilizers (substitutes for toxic lead-based stabilizers) in PVC mixtures. As a lubricant, process aid and acid scavenger in the mixing of many polymers such as polyolefins, polystyrene, etc.

In the concrete industry, calcium stearate KSC3020 is used to control scaling of cement materials used in the production of concrete products such as paving stones and blocks, as well as to make them resistant to water.

In the paper industry, calcium stearate is used as a lubricant that provides good gloss and prevents dusting and cracking in paper and cardboard manufacturing.

FSC3014 can act as an acid scavenger or neutralizer in concentrations above 1000 ppm, and as a lubricant or a releasing agent in plastic, polymer, and copper. Calcium stearate is also used in colored plastic concentrates to improve pigment drying. In hard PVCs, it can accelerate melting, improve silane and reduce swelling.

Zinc Stearate (Zinc Stearate)

It is a white micronized and hydrophobic powder that is in the family of zinc soaps. This widely used industrial substance is obtained from the reaction of fatty acids with a combination of zinc metal.

Polymers are long chain molecules that become viscous and sticky at temperatures above their melting point. Frictional forces between polymer-polymer, polymer-metal, polymer-filler (filler), filler-filler and filler-metal hinder the movement of the polymer compound. Meanwhile, lubricants solve this problem by reducing the friction coefficient of moving surfaces.

Among the lubricants, zinc stearate is a very important additive in the production and processing of polymers. This material is used as an internal lubricant in molding powders and as a mold lubricant.

Magnesium stearate

This substance is a chemical compound with the formula Mg(C18H35O2)2, which is formed by the reaction of stearic acid anion and magnesium cation.

Lubricants are widely used in various industries in order to create anti-adhesion properties, improve fluidity and lubrication of powders and granules, as well as reduce friction, transfer heat and prevent corrosion during the process. Among the lubricants, magnesium stearate is widely used in making tablets and capsules, food products, cosmetic products and industrial products. High melting temperature, high lubricity in low concentrations, high coating ability, safety, non-toxicity and proper stability are the advantages of magnesium stearate compared to other lubricants.

Aluminum stearate

It is obtained from the combination of aluminum salt and stearic acid and is in the family of organic compounds. Its appearance is usually a white micronized powder.

Aluminum stearate is a substance that prevents the formation of foam, it is a thickener that is used in the paint, ceramic, glazing, plastic and grease industries.

Aluminum stearate dissolves in non-vegetable oils at a temperature above 60 degrees, which occurs after cooling. In the usual process of making paints, before adding oil or solvent, aluminum stearate is ground with pigment.

Potassium stearate

It is an emulsifier from the family of stearate salts, which is used in the cosmetics industry to stabilize the formula and increase concentration.

This substance, which exists in the form of white powder, is formed by the combination of potassium ion and stearate ion.

Potassium stearate contains saturated potassium salt of C16 and C18 fatty acids. Potassium stearate may be used as a lubricant or stabilizer in polyolefin, PVC and acrylic rubber production. Another use of potassium stearate, as well as an emulsifier in the polymerization of butadiene and polymerizable compounds such as acrylonitrile, acrylonitrile, styrene and acrylic ester, and the production of synthetic rubber. Potassium stearate is also a catalyst in the production of mono and diglycerides and an element that makes many glyceryl esters (self-emulsifiers).

Sodium stearate

The sodium salt is stearic acid, whose pH is in the basic range, and its physical state is a white powder.

Sodium stearate has both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts. This material is used in the initial formulation of all types of fat removers. This white solid is the most common soap.

Sodium stearate has many uses, sodium stearate is also used to stabilize emulsions, which means it prevents oil and water based components from separating.
